MixLab is a fun, practical music production programme for primary schools, where children learn to create, produce and complete their own original music. Along the way, they develop new skills, build confidence and express their creativity. No previous musical experience is needed — MixLab is designed for complete beginners and young musicians alike.

From their first beat to their finished track, children learn how to turn their ideas into music using iPads and GarageBand. Along the way, they explore rhythm, chords, melody and composition, building both musical and digital skills through hands-on creation.

Gus Nunes
Gus Nunes holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology and is a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and educator passionate about inspiring young people through music. Discovering music production as a teenager gave Gus the opportunity not just to play music, but to create his own original work and express his creativity. Today, he is dedicated to giving students the same opportunity to create, explore, and develop confidence through music. Alongside producing and releasing his own music, Gus has taught in primary and secondary schools across both public and private sectors. He has played a key role in developing music production programmes, writing curriculum content, and designing engaging projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and a love of music-making.

MixLab is a modern music education programme that develops creativity, technical skills, confidence, and problem-solving through music production.
MixLab broadens music education beyond learning to play and perform. Through music production, children discover how music is created, composed, recorded and arranged, developing creativity, confidence, technical skills and problem-solving along the way.
As they create their own original tracks, children become composers, producers and creative thinkers. They develop musical understanding, critical listening and digital literacy while gaining hands-on experience with the tools and techniques behind the music they hear today.
Music production also creates another pathway into music for children who may not connect with traditional instrumental learning. It gives every child the opportunity to experiment, express their ideas and create something uniquely their own.
MixLab complements existing music provision, helping schools offer a broader, more inclusive music experience that reflects how music is made today — while encouraging children to use technology creatively, purposefully and with confidence.
